In the beginning, I hate programming so much because it just seems stupid to just sit in front of your desk every day and typing. But as my life goes on, things change and my view on programming had changed. Programming teaches me a lot of things about life and really help to on becoming the person I am today. Below is the 13 things that programming has taught me about life.
1. Worry about problem is stupid.
- As a human being, problem will never disappear in our life. Whenever there a problem, it ups to us to solve it. There's no point of worry about the problem as it will cause anxiety. Instead of worrying, find a solution for it. No problem in the world is unsolvable, it's just that it might take time to think of a solution but it definitely not impossible.
2. Working as a team.
- In order to achieve great things, working as a team is very important. Nobody can achieve something big by themselves. It requires more than one genius brain to create big things.
3. Everyone can contribute to the industry.
- Different in races, gender, age doesn't matter. As long as you have the will to contribute, you can contribute. Programming is about encouraging people to contribute, not the other way around.
4. The world is not just about how good looking/ pretty you are.
- Nowadays, internet is famous for spreading all those fitness exercise and completely destroy the mentality of those who does not born with such beauty. In the programming world, all of us help us other. We don't care who you are or how you look like, we accept everyone and we help each other improve themselves and gaining self confident.
5. Learning is life.
- Programming is just too vast for us to master everything. That's why make it a very interesting thing to learn. Learning everyday will help you to gain more knowledge and prevent you from screwing around with your future.
6. Become more efficient in term of handling things.
- As a programmer, efficiency is very important. It is important the work that we have done to be tidy and efficient so that others can understand our work.
7. Life is unfair.
- Bill Gates once said that life is unfair. Yes, it is definitely true. Why? Programmers have spent a lot of time reading, research and testing the code just with the purpose of hoping it will be able to help others to make their life easier. But most of the time, their effort are not being appreciated. People tend to want more and the programmers are the persons to blame.
8. You don't have to be genius to know how to write code.
- As long as you understand the basic fundamental concept of programming, you can code. You don't need to have a genius brain to write code.
9. It fun to be able to solve mystery
- It's not a weird situation for a programmer to spend quite some time on debugging. It is the most frustrating situations for programmers and sometimes time consuming. But after the mystery has been solved, you will feel kind of happy, fun, excited feeling because all the efforts that you poured off finally paid off.
10. People can be mean.
- This kind of people are mostly people that lack of knowledge in term of technology. They thought that programming is like typing. They keep complaining about why the features are slow to release and said that we are not up to our job.
11. Healthy body is more important than your work.
- Work is important because it gives you money to buy things that you want. But without a healthy body, you can't work. Do take care of yourselves by maintaining a healthy diet and never ever skip your meal.
12. Programming is not a job
- If you work as a programmer and you hate your job, there only 3 possible reasons that may cause that.
- Your boss suck
- Your company is too strict about how you manage your time.
- Wrong career.
- You are the smartest one among your team.
- Working as a programmer is the most wonderful things in term of time flexibility. You can arrange your time by yourselves without other people set it for you, Besides that, you can also do your job during the weekend if you want although I wouldn't recommend this to those that have families to care of.
