8 reasons why university is a bad place to learn programming

Tags

Everyone thinks that the university will teach you about programming.
Yes, they teach your programming, but in the wrong way.
Why I said that?

1. Everything about grade

Grades are very important for students and nobody can argue with this fact. But obsess of grade can lead students in the wrong way of learning programming. Programming should be a fun yet challenging enough to exercise our brain.

Grades have totally destroyed our young generation. Nowadays young generations care only their certificate, but not the truth meaning of learn programming. This also the reason why nowadays programmers are jobless.

2. As long as it works, you are good to go

Students tend to use a lot of bad programming approach in their assignment. If you are a beginner in programming, it is impossible for you to know all these without the guidance of the much experience programmer. Bad programming approach is a very serious issue for the programmer as it will not only make them look sloppy and jobless, but also will cause a lot of trouble to the programmer that using a good programming approach.

3. Boring classes

This is one issue that lectures should take note of. Conducting a boring class will just slow down student progress and even worst make them lose interest in programming. If the programming is all about theory, lectures should have the initiative to explain more in a much more interesting ways to live up the environment.

4. Lack of encouragement

Lectures always forget to encourage their students more. Programming is not an easy thing to master, and its the lecture's job to encourage their student to try more and more. Continuously encourage student might look annoyed, but the result is unexpectedly golden.

5. Lecturers don't even give a damn about their student

This issue has often happened to the lectures that have taught for a long period of time. They tend to become lazy and wouldn't even care about their students. All they care are finishing their job and getting the paycheck every month and goes through the loop again. If you are paid for what you do, do it properly.

6. Hard to catch up

If you are surrounding with students that already have experience in programming before entering university, you might have trouble catching up. What even makes it worse is that lectures wouldn't stop if there only one person that does not understand the things that they taught. You have to either struggle really hard every day to catch up with the others or just give up and learn programming by yourself because they wouldn't wait for you.

7. Wrong purpose

The real purpose of learning programming for students nowadays is to pass the subject. College and university fees are extremely expensive nowadays and it is understandable that the reason to pass is to avoid paying fees for the same subject.

This is a stupid reason yo learn programming, you might as well quit university and learn it by your own. Internet has a lot of online teachers such as stack overflow, YouTube and etc.

8. Produce negative thinking about ourselves

If everyone in class is getting better in programming, but you don't, eventually a negative thinking will haunt your mind. You will think that you are not suitable to learn programming, but yet to afraid of let it go because of your family reason or scare of being teased or laughed by your classmates and friends.
